Location: Residential Home in Boca Raton FL, 33428 Cause of Problem: Leaking Garbage Disposal Resolution: On a late Friday afternoon Rhino Rooter received a service request for a leaking garbage disposal. The home owner was in the middle of cooking for a large party and repairs where urgent. The Rhino Rooter plumber was dispatch immediately to investigate the situation. The plumber found that the garbage disposal leaking from the base of the housing. Unfortunately this particular leak was not repairable. It also created large mess from the leaking into the cabinets below. The leaking garbage disposal was replace with a new unit. The plumber installed a Badger 5 disposal with new electrical whip. The basket drain was also removed and replace from the stainless steel sink. The new basket drain was installed so that the new disposal would fit correctly and be leak free. The new drain also insured a nice tight seal to prevent future leaks and issues. All the work was able to be completed in a timely fashion that the customers dinner party did not skip a beat. The modern garbage disposal average life expectancy is is anywhere from 6-10 years. It is best to only use the the garbage disposal for small amounts of food at a time. You should NEVER use the disposal as a garbage. Avoid egg shells, pasta/noodles, coffee grounds, fruit peels, rice, and similar items. The best way to clean your garbage disposal is simple. Fill the disposal and sink full of ice cubes and turn the unit on. This will actually cause the blades to be cleaned of any food build up to eliminate smells. After you can mix two part white vinegar to one part baking soda and pour down the disposal. Let it sit for an hour then, pour hot water down the drain to flush out. Location: Residential Home in Boca Raton FL, 33428 Cause of Problem: Toilet running though the night. Resolution: Rhino Rooter received a service request from a customer located in Boca Raton FL for toilet running. The customer notice that there toilet would constantly make noises. Luckily Rhino Rooter repairs toilets running. They stated they first notice the problem because the noise would keep they up at night. When the Rhino Rooter plumber arrived he performed some diagnostic work on the toilet. The plumber also found that the home owner's water bill had a significant increase. The cause was a failing flapper and fill valve. The fill valve/ballcock is located inside the tank area of your toilet. The design for the fill valve/ballcock has a built in float. The water enters your toilet tank via the fill valve. Once the toilet reaches to correct level, the float becomes lifted and in return shuts the valve closed to stop water from filling up the toilet tank. The flapper is the mechanism that allows the filled tank to transfer into the bowl when the handle is pushed. The design behind the flapper is to seal the water in the tank until the handle is pushed then automatically close once the transfer of water is completed. The flapper is connected to the handle by a chain. Most flappers will be made of rubber and warp over time. This will cause a slow leak from tank to the bowl which will cause the water level to drop and kick on the fill valve to re-fill to appropriate level. Once these parts where replaced the toilet was working in perfect condition. If your toilet is making any funny noises call us today and have a professional make the needed repairs.
