How to maintain your drain:

There is a simple way to treat your drain with regular household items that you may have in your pantry. You can mix two parts vinegar to one part baking soda and pour down the bathroom sink drain. Allow it to sit for 45 mins to an hour, then pour a small bucket of very hot water to flush out
the drain. The foaming action cause by the mixture will help break down the buildup on the pipe water. The best part about this method is that it’s cheap and completely safe for your drainage system. Most Plumbing Contractors also will sell a safe drain care product as well.

What to do if the bathroom sink is clogged?

Most people will attempt to plunge the drain which may sometimes work, or use a “drain opening” chemical. You should never use any chemicals that are sold at local stores to attempt to clear your drain. Most of the drain opening products contain acid and may cause major damage to your drain system. The acid may also harm you or your family, skin contact may cause burning and the fumes alone will cause you to lose your breath. If your sink becomes clogged the only attempt you should make to clear it without professional help is to disconnect your P-Trap. Make sure you use a pan or bucket to collect the water, loosen the trap and check for buildup. If the P-Trap is clear, then contact a pro to snake the drain. If you are not properly trained in handling drain machines, you should not attempt to snake the line yourself as you may cause more damage and make for a costly repair.
